1. Overview
This article provides an overview of new features and improvements in the Fortanix Filesystem Encryption (FSE)-Windows 2.8.217 release.
2. New Features
Added support for File Exclusion policy in Fortanix FSE for Windows, allowing users to define specific file paths, directories, or file types within a mount point to be excluded from encryption (JIRA: FSE-362).
For more information, refer to Filesystem Encryption for Windows as a Service Using Fortanix Data Security Manager - Policies.
3. Improvements
The Fortanix FSE Windows Agent now records hostname and cipherDir during the following operations (JIRA: FSE-597):
Track and mount
Unmount and mount
Agent upgrade
The collected data is now included in the heartbeat payload sent to Fortanix DSM, ensuring that Fortanix DSM successfully receives and processes the additional information.
4. Known Issues
The Fortanix FSE agent does not restrict access to files such as databases and logs by default. This means that unauthorized users might access them (JIRA: FSE-185).
Workaround: Set file permissions to ensure only the Fortanix FSE Agent’s service account and authorized administrators can access these files.
