What is Key Check Value for a Fortanix DSM security object ?

Prev Next

The Key Checksum Value (KCV) is the checksum of a cryptographic key. It is used to validate the key integrity or match the keys without knowing their actual values.

Fortanix-Data-Security-Manager (DSM) automatically calculates the KCV for any key generated or imported into the system. The KCV is derived using standard cryptographic practices and represents a 24-bit value computed from the key material. This value serves as a short fingerprint of the key and is commonly used to verify the integrity of the key.
