What is Key Check Value for a Fortanix DSM security object ?

Prev Next

The Key Checksum Value (KCV) is the checksum of a cryptographic key. It is used to validate the key integrity or match the keys without knowing their actual values.

Fortanix Data Security Manager (DSM) automatically calculates the KCV for any key generated or imported into the system. The KCV is derived using standard cryptographic practices and represents a 24-bit value computed from the key material. This value serves as a short fingerprint of the key and is commonly used to verify the integrity of the key.
