# What are the Fortanix DSM SaaS Account States?

## 1.0 Introduction

There are two account states in Fortanix-Data-Security-Manager (DSM) Software as a Service (SaaS).

### 1.1 Active State

An account (Trial or Production) is considered to be in an active state during which customers/tenants **are allowed** to create new security objects, edit existing security objects, use those security objects to perform cryptographic operations, and read values of those security objects (secrets).

### 1.2 Inactive State

An account (Trial or Production) is considered to be in an inactive state during which customers/tenants **are not allowed** to create new security objects, edit existing security objects, use those security objects to perform cryptographic operations, or read values of those security objects (secrets).

Fortanix Data Security Manager (DSM) is the world’s first cloud service secured with Intel® SGX. With Fortanix DSM, you can securely generate, store, and use cryptographic keys and certificates, as well as other secrets such as passwords, API keys, tokens, or any blob of data. Your business-critical applications and containers can integrate with Fortanix DSM using legacy cryptographic interfaces (PKCS#11, CNG, and JCE) or using the native Fortanix DSM RESTful interface.
